Most of the rules for regular mahjong also apply to Butterfly Kyodai. It's easy, just pair off the squares along the board's perimeter. Only butterflies that are not obstructed by other pieces will be counted. Select a butterfly wing by tapping on it, then combine it with another wing that works well with it by tapping on it again. Only if you can connect two tiles with a line can you make a match. This route cannot cross into any adjacent cells or be sharper than a twenty-degree bend. The only time this is not required is when two identical tiles are next to one another.

The time pressure adds an extra layer of difficulty to the game, making it more difficult to complete the tile clearance objective. Fortunately, there is assistance available. You have the option of shuffling the butterflies for a new aesthetic, and you get three clues that will tell you the locations of the matching pairs.

To refresh your memory, after finishing a level you have access to either hints or shuffles as a reward. If you're having trouble and can't think of a new combination, touch the magic wand tile. If you're at a loss for what to do next and hit the shuffle symbol, the remaining tiles on the board will be randomly rearranged.
